CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS
Frame to Focus: Vietnamese American Women Artists is a catalog/ anthology project dedicated to the artistic work and voices of contemporary Vietnamese American women designed to celebrate their individual and collective creative genius. This printed book Frame to Focus will be produced and published by writer, book artist and founder of Pomelo Press, Anh-Hoa Thi Nguyen in collaboration with artist-designer, Anne Ngan Nguyen. This catalog/anthology will be an inclusive and comprehensive resource/archive of Vietnamese and woman and womxn identifying artists that are creating currently in the United States.
This collection of visual, performance and interdisciplinary and multi-media art will be donated to the libraries of art colleges and universities that house art and art history departments and prominent art galleries. Major museums in the US will also be approached to have this catalog for sale in their museum stores either directly or via an online vendor. Please note: this book is being created as a “not for profit” social justice tool to de-center whiteness in the art industry and as a direct response to patriarchy and US centered military narratives about the War in Vietnam and South East Asia.
Frame to Focus is a project sponsored by The Catherine G. Murphy Gallery in conjunction with the exhibit titled “Confluence: Inflection: Art by Contemporary Vietnamese American Women” that will be on view in spring 2021 at St. Catherine University. “Confluence: Inflection” is an exhibit also curated by Anh-Hoa Thi Nguyen that will foreground the diverse brilliance of contemporary Vietnamese American women artists, writers and musicians in a collection of multimedia and interdisciplinary exhibition of art/film, literature/text and music/sound. This exhibit will feature contemporary and acclaimed Vietnamese American women artists Tiffany Chung, Trinh Mai, Christine Nguyen, Isabelle Thuy Pelaud and Diana Khoi Nguyen in addition to a solo exhibit by writer, artist, and musician Dao Strom.
