DVAN Executive Director Isabelle Pelaud sat down with Unseen Histories for a conversation about The Cleaving – an anthology of dialogues between Vietnamese writers across borders. The Cleaving originated from conversations collected at DVAN’s 2018 Djerassi Resident Artists Program and soon expanded into a full collection. Co-edited by Lan Duong, Viet Thanh Nguyen, and Isabelle Pelaud, The Cleaving illuminates the complex lives and stakes of diasporic Vietnamese writers. Isabelle discussed how race, colonialism, and war crucially inform Vietnamese literature, particularly with the rise of anti-immigrant sentiment in Trump’s America. Read the full interview here.
