Workshop: Succeeding as Women of Color in Academia

Date/Time: May. 4th, 2022 / 6:00pm Pacific Standard Time
Instructor:
Lily Hoang

The academic job market might be frightful, but as the children of refugees and immigrants, negotiating the tenure track requires skills that are often counter to our upbringing. In this event, we will discuss practical strategies for success in academic jobs, from the job market to negotiations to tenure and promotion. Please bring questions and your personal experiences!

About the Instructor:

Lily Hoang is the author of five books of prose, including Changing (recipient of a PEN Open Books Award) and A Bestiary (winner of the Cleveland State University Poetry Center’s Non-Fiction Book Prize). With Joshua Marie Wilkinson, she edited the anthology The Force of What’s Possible: Writers on Accessibility and the Avant-Garde. In Summer 2017, she was Mellon Scholar in Residence at Rhodes University in South Africa. She is Editor of Jaded Ibis Press and Executive Editor of HTML Giant. She is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Literature at the University of California in San Diego as well as the Director of the MFA Program in Writing.
