DVAN believes the impact of group residencies on an individual artist shares a similar arc to the creative writing process itself: inspiration sparks engaging language and creativity. In the same way, group connections generate the electricity to ignite collective dialogues and creative collaborations. For diasporic Southeast Asian female and nonbinary writers from around the world, this residency is designed to kindle creativity, connections, and community. While there is no pressure to create works together, we do hope a spirit of generosity and collaboration will uplift the collective, helping to heal systemic and historical wounds.
The DVAN-Luce Global Collective Residency for Women & Nonbinary Writers will bring together a cohort of 6 to 7 international or US-based diasporic Southeast Asian/ Vietnamese writers who identify as female or nonbinary. The residents will be selected through a juried process for a fully funded two-week stay at Millay Arts in upstate New York from December 2nd to the 15th.
Residents will each have a private bedroom and studio (bedding and linens provided), shared living spaces, a laundry room, a workstation, and the use of the Alumni and Nancy Graves Memorial Libraries. Groceries are provided along with communal dinners prepared by the in-house chef.
This collaborative and community-focused opportunity was made possible by a generous grant from the Luce Foundation, for which DVAN is deeply grateful.
