Among many of the poet participants, we focus on\u00a0M\u1ed9ng Lan, poet and artist.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>[before we begin: have you heard about our\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/dvan.org\/2011\/03\/06\/subscriber-drive-win-prizes-for-subscribing-or-referring-new-readers\/\" target=\"_blank\">subscriber drive<\/a>? win an iPod and other prizes!]<\/em><\/p>\n<p>M\u1ed9ng Lan is one of the growing number of talented Vietnamese diasporic poets. \u00a0Not only is she a poet, she is a multi-faceted artist\u00a0\u2014 writer, painter, photographer, and tango dancer. As a poet, M\u1ed9ng Lan has numerous publications, including <em>Song of the Cicadas<\/em>, an award-winning poetry collection; <em>Why is the Edge Always Windy?<\/em>; <em>Love Poem to Tofu &amp; Other Poems<\/em>, a chapbook of poetry and artwork; and the most recent, <em>Tango, Tangoing: Poems &amp; Art<\/em>, which is also published as a bilingual Spanish-English edition.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 461px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"  \" src=\"http:\/\/www.dvanonline.org\/vietnamese-poets-of-the-diaspora\/images\/img_8161_1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"461\" height=\"308\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">M\u1ed9ng Lan reading at the DVAN&#39;s Vietnamese Poets of the Diaspora, 2008. Photo Courtesy of DVAN.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>At the Vietnamese Poets of the Diaspora event, M\u1ed9ng Lan introduces readers into her \u00a0new publication, <em>Tango, Tangoing: Poems &amp; Art.<\/em> Drawing from her five-month stay in Bueno Aires, M\u1ed9ng Lan brings together the tango, poetry, photography, and painting to give poetry visual and aural dimensions. Experience it here:<\/p>\n<div class=\"youtube-embed\" data-video_id=\"tNM5JH9N5Ao\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/tNM5JH9N5Ao?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; encrypted-media\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>Other poets who participated in the DVAN event alongside\u00a0M\u1ed9ng Lan were:\u00a0\u00c1nh Ho\u00e0, poet and writer; l\u00ea thi diem th\u00fay, a writer whose novel, <em>the gangster we are all looking for<\/em>, was chosen as <a href=\"https:\/\/dvan.org\/2011\/02\/06\/a-tet-treat-le-thi-diem-thuys-the-gangster-we-are-all-looking-for-is-san-diegos-one-book-for-2011\/\" target=\"_blank\">San Diego&#8217;s &#8220;One Book&#8221; 2011<\/a>; B\u1ea3o Phi, spoken word artist, whose collection is forthcoming Autumn 2011; Linh \u0110inh, a prolific writer whose recent works include the collection, <em>Some Kind of Cheese Orgy<\/em> (2009), and his first novel, <em>Love Like Hate<\/em> (2010); Tr\u01b0\u1eddng Tr\u1ea7n, poet.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mceTemp mceIEcenter\">\n<p class=\"wp-caption-dt\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.dvanonline.org\/images\/dvan-poets-of-the-diaspora.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"350\" height=\"224\" \/><\/p>\n<dl class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\">\n<dd class=\"wp-caption-dd\">DVAN Executive Director Isabelle Thuy Pelaud and the six writers featured at DVAN&#8217;s &#8220;Vietnamese Poets of the Diaspora&#8221; on November 8, 2008. Earlier in April 2010, the second edition, Outspoken: Vietnamese Poets of the Diaspora II, again highlighted the talents of new writers: Anh Vu Buchanan; Andrew Lam, journalist and author of <em>Perfume Dreams<\/em> and <em>East Eats West<\/em>; Kim-An Lieberman, poet of the collection, <em>Breaking the Map<\/em>; Trinh T. Minh-Ha, critic, writer, and filmmaker; Dao Strom, novelist and musician; and Lan Tran, writer and performer.<\/p>\n<p>More information on these two Vietnamese Poets of the Diaspora events and on the participants can be found at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dvanonline.org\/dvan-events.php\" target=\"_blank\">DVAN<\/a>. She received a Wallace E. Stegner Fellowship in poetry at Stanford University and a Fulbright Scholarship to Vi\u1ec7t Nam. Her work has been anthologized in\u00a0Best American Poetry\u00a0and published in various literary magazines.
