diaCRITICS Needs You

diaCRITICS, one of the first Vietnamese and Southeast Asian diasporic literary magazines, needs your help. The magazine will end in 2024 without funding. DVAN Co-Founder, Viet Thanh Nguyen, in large part, funded diaCRITICS through his MacArthur Award. His sponsorship completes this year. We are now looking to you for support.

After thirteen years of publishing thousands of articles, essays, interviews, fiction, art, poetry and more, all representing and uplifting over 1,500+ independent artists, critics, writers, and creators, diaCRITICS and its operations, along with its vast archive, will cease.

diaCRITICS has become an established platform that uplifts Vietnamese and Southeast Asian diasporic voices. It garners 89,000+ readers and 180,000+ website views per year. We publish on average 75 literary pieces annually from emerging and established writers across the globe and produce a monthly newsletter with 4,000+ subscribers.

diaCRITICS has international reach and has been featured by the Saigonese and Le Monde, with contributions from Pulitzer Prize winner, Viet Thanh Nguyen (The Sympathizer), award-winning graphic novelist, Thi Bui (The Best We Could Do), award-winning author Nguyễn Phan Quế Mai, Kimberly Nguyen, Tracey Lien, E.M Tran, Ly Tran, and so many others.

We need a minimum of $25,000 out of a total operating budget of $45,000 to preserve diaCRITICS for the Vietnamese and Southeast Asian diaspora. This year, diaCRITICS aims to publish more Southeast Asian diasporic voices and provide diaCRITICS’ writers more support through our residencies, to increase readership, translate our content to reach a more diverse audience and develop our media relationships to shift diaCRITICS into mainstream media.

Help us continue to amplify the different voices and stories of the Southeast Asian diaspora. Support diaCRITICS today!
